I'm wondering if the Blackhawk and redhawk cylinders in 45 colt are the same internally?

Will they both allow Ruger only loads and boolit length?

Thanks in advance...

Afaik they both will easily take Ruger Only loads, the RH actually being the stronger of the two. The only Rugers that cannot take Ruger Only loads are the medium framed models which have a three digit prefix in their serial number.

So, will they allow the same COL with a given boolit?

They should. The New Model Blackhawk has a cylinder length of 1.670 and a width of 1.725. The Redhawk has a cylinder length of 1.750 and a width of 1.780.

The Blackhawks cylinder will accept a max length cartridge of 1.763" length and a RedHawk will accept a max length of 1.805" length.
Both will accept Full size and full power Blackhawks loads but there is an individual that is loading for the RedHawk at slightly less than 45,000 PSI at a length of 1.785" length with a 405 gr bullet.

What isn't the same? Except the obvious.
