Those of you who are shooting 32/20 rounds in your Ruger 30 Carbines, what bullets are working best for you. Also, any luck sizing down any of the .313" size slugs, I have more of these moulds than I do 30 caliber moulds. I just picked up a pretty nifty Reeder 30 Carbine & I'll start testing all this week, thoughts?

I use 311008 sized to .311. This works great. No leading and good accuracy for me. .32-20 brass is thin, so plan on losing some cases from time to time. I just followed the advice "Beagle" wrote on loading for the .30 Carbine.

Is there an advantage to this? I would think .32-20 brass would be alot harder to find and more expensive.

32-20 and 30 Carbine brass are available from Starline for pretty much the same price. With 32-20 you don't have to worry so much about the length of the brass. Although I have never tried it, some people say getting the 30 Carbine brass just the right length is critical. I just avoided this from the start and went with 32-20 which has the advantage of a rim. It would be sweet if Starline would produce some 30 Carbine brass with a rim. This would eliminate the working of brass when getting the 32-20 back to size and shape. Maybe someone could head up a group buy...

My 4 digit 3-screw model won't accommodate the 32-20 rim. Fui.

The New Models will.

I have used both in my Ruger. I have found that trimming the carbine brass allows it to fit (allows the cylinder to rotate) and since then I use carbine brass solely. I did experience some .32-20 brass with a base too thick to allow the cylinder to turn. This is a new model Ruger.

I've shot lots of 30 carbine in my gun (new model) & 32/20 brass fits, I just haven't loaded any yet, dies should be here monday. I have 5-6 different bullet moulds I'll try in it. I'm guessing the grouse are in for another serious pounding.

I had to trim the 32-20 brass back to length but the advantage is that the brass now headspaces on the rim and not the finicky case mouth [case length] of the 30 carbine.
I use the rcbs 098rnfp plain base mold, trimmed back the cases, and roll crimp in the groove.
oh I just size them to 313 [shrug] they seem to work with the 32-20 brass better that size.
