I finished milling out my receiver for my ar project. I was thinking about powder coating it. from my research, it would not be in the trigger group pocket. too thick. I can still do the outside. I have a Teflon based powder I am trying to use up. already used it on a barrel. (will not do that again unless I have a oven large enough). any suggestions what to use on the in mag well and trigger group pocket?

I just use Birchwood Casey aluminum hide. After you assemble the trigger group you won't be able to see any bare aluminum anyways.

There are several good coating that are baked on for guns. I use Gun Kote. There are spray cans of coating available from Brownells that would be handy for what you want.
Powder coating will work but probably not as durable as others but if you already have it try it. You can always strip it and start over.

I have the guns and stuff. looked at all the gun coating at brownells. right now I can justify paying for a product if I don't really have to right now. may be later. if you know what I mean.

I spoke with a small shop in Boise that does one or two custom anodizing jobs from time to time for people. He thinks that the ultimate coating process would be to bead blast the anodized exterior surfaces and then Cera-Kote them. Everything will match, and the abrasion/wear resistance would be off the charts. That process would insure that no coating buildup would occur on the interior surfaces.

Just waiting for a coupe 80% sets to arrive.

There are lots of aftermarket firearm finishes available. Some require an oven, others do not. I usually do not bother to use any finishes on my 80% builds because none of the machined surfaces are visible once the rifle is assembled.

How ever I did just recently do one using a Duracoat camo kit https://www.lauerweaponry.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_ID=829

They have dozens of different color/template kits. I did this one using their Urban Camo kit.
