One of my sons wants to scope his m1a he looked at a few of them and he got a mount with the rifle when he purchased it the old SA mount which he is not happy with. There are quite a few mounts out on the net he wants one that doesn't shoot loose after a few rounds and is able to be close to zero after it is remounted suggestions?

I have been very happy with my Brookfield-type Smith Enterprise mount. http://smithenterprise.com/products09.html

Never used one but heard good things about http://www.sadlak.com/si_rifle_parts_sm.html

Lower cost option http://www.armsunlimited.com/ARMS-18-M21-M14-M1A-Scope-Mount-p/arms-18.htm

I have tried a couple that just use the single point mount screw. I have not been happy with them.

Got one of these

also you'll need some type of cheekrest to get you head up.

sadlak or basset are the top 2 choices when it comes to scoping one of these rifles. ive personally got a sadlak, and its rock solid!

I believe the Smith Enterprise mount is the one that the military purchases for their sniper M-14 rifles. I just installed one on my son's m1A1 scout rifle. When you install be sure to degrease all threaded screws and screw holes and use the blue loc-tite and it should not vibrate loose. Gunor is right about needing a lace on cheekrest.

I've been completely satisfied with the "Swan" A.R.M.S. mount on my 1990's S.A. M1A.

I have the Bassett picatinny low mount and I like it.
Rock solid. Easy on, easy off and holds zero.

Another trick to help with mount holding zero on and off is to bed it to the side of the recievers boss.
