Saeco Mod 24 Pot Leaks - Question about the Stopper

I picked this up at an estate sale and after refinishing couldn't be happier. My only complaint is it does tend to leak some. How much depends on how much lead is in it. I took the stopper out and cleaned everything and tried lapping it 3 different times. My stopper is flat on the end. Not rounded nor does it have a "nipple" that goes down in the smaller hole of the spout. I noticed my lee bottom pour has a rounded end to the stopper. Does any one know what the bottom end of the Saeco is supposed to look like. I doubt it was rounded unless someone went to a lot of trouble grinding/filing it flat. It could have had a nipple on the end that got broke off. If it turns out it is supposed to be flat what do you guys think about turning the very bottom 1/8" down to where it would fit in the small hole of the spout? I'm thinking that should solve the leak.

Too much bevel on the end will cause the rod to not be long enough to stopper the nozzle. At the most, I would break the edge and polish and/or lap.

At times. Could probably add some weight to the handle and stop the leaking.

From reading through the post it seems a lot of people have eliminated or helped the leaking by adding weight. I'm leaning toward agreeing with the theory that a full pot of lead floats the stopper up off the hole. Mine doesn't leak or barely does when it's low on lead. Will try again this weekend and report results.
