Swede did a one-off of 4 x 1 lb ingot molds his past week.

Got to try mine today and here is a shot of 20% of my quick smelting. Had a bunch of lead and cast bullets from a house fire and wanted to cast them all into clean ingots.

molds are great--wife even talked about putting one on wall as an 'accent piece.'

147537Well, the pic seems upside down, but I also managed to get some ingots poured in my new NOE mold. I like the alloy composition options on the ingots as well.

What are the markings on the ingots?

Man! Those ingots are of a REALLY light alloy! My mold is still in the sorting loop called Detroit - Pontiac area where packages have been known to languish for up to a week before getting up to Flint - about 75 miles.Robert

I have been waiting to order one, today was payday! Promptly clicked on over and ordered one (tempted to get two!), one of NOE's little bullet GC base chamfer tools and a... 358-155-TC RG4 cavity PB Brass (ELCO) mold

Just received my set today very nice machine work. Won't be using them for about a month got 50 lbs of monotype and plan to mix it with WW that I have on hand. If I read the charts correctly 3 parts lead to 1 part monotype.

That is a nice mold. I opted to go with 4 jumbo muffin pans that have cavities for 6 muffins. Each "muffin" weighs 5 pounds. So I can pour 120 pounds of lead ingots before I need to empty the molds.
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Wilton-6-Cup-Jumbo-Cupcake-Pan/10542207 The local store sold them to me for $14.50 each.

Hmmmm....jumbo cupcake pan $15. Jumbo muffin pan $6. Hmmmmmm.

If you don't want to spend the $$$, I get that, but like anything if you want something nice you pay for it. You are comparing the crudest of ingot "molds" to the best I have seen. Some posts are such a waste of server space.

Why waste 36 dollars to get 4 1 pound ingots when the muffin pan will provide more capacity for half the cost. And yes, I could have found cheaper muffin pans, but the cheaper ones are coated with the non stick coatings and hot lead sticks to them.

I am also not going to spend 36 dollars on an ingot mold just to feel like I have a higher status because I got the "Cadillac" of ingot molds I overspent on.

"Higher Status". That is what this is all about, higher status.
Memo to Al, please stop making nice stuff.

Its all good guys! Different strokes for different folks. NOE makes a quality product and its no surprise that their ingot mold is top of the line. A little pricey for some and worth it to others.

"A little pricey for some and worth it to others."

Exactly. I don't own a 1050 press, but God Bless everyone who owns one. I never looked at all this the way most/many do. Get the cheapest, get the best, or get something in between. I get all points of view, just don't get the notion that buying an ingot mold has anything to do with status. No one cares here, or any where else, what types of ingot molds I have/use.

I must have 30 different ingot molds. I use to use cheap muffin tins but they don't stack worth a darn. I have a bunch of cast iron cooking molds, same thing, don't stack well, but they are a handy size. I have some angle iron moulds I bought here because I like to keep my different alloys in different shapes. They stack OK but you end up with a pyramid. I have a few of the Beone aluminum moulds as they are great for bulk storage as they stack exceedingly well, and can be marked as to alloy. I use my Lyman moulds when I want to make a bunch of pure lead 1 lb ingots because that is all my RCBS can digest without freezing up. And I use my "High Status" Original Cast Boolit moulds because they are a great size for tin/lead mixes, as I don't need large ingots for that, and they are a joy to use. Every one of my moulds has a specific use, so I don't feel it was money wasted, especially if it keeps my lead organized. If you feel that all you need is a piece of wood with a hole in it to cast ingots, more power to you, only you know what is important to you. Just be safe.

Springfield I use angle iron molds. They stack great in milk crates. They hold enough you couldnt possibly move one. I have about 6 full. If I need more I have lots of lead still to be smelted. I am not saying you are wrong...just saying what I do for everyone's knowledge and consideration.

Used an old cast iron corncob pan I took off of the wall at first then tried a muffin pan. My wife bought me a Lee Ingot for Christmas a few years ago. Seems to work easier but heats up fast. I let the ingots cool, write what they are on top with a marker and store them in plastic containers that have handles and fit about 40lbs so I can pick them up.

All work well. I'm not much into "status" anything but if people want to pay extra for ingot molds that say other stuff on them knock yourself out! The main thing is that they work.

Now back to the original topic, than really is a nice mold. Would you mind getting a better pic of just one ingot so I can see how the markings are. Thanks

Nice mold. Looks better than my muffin tin, or corn cob ingots. I look for the good ones at goodwill, but will probably never see one of these unfortunately.

Tried some sheet metal muffin pans several years ago. They popped apart in short order. Cups were roll formed into the tray and simply all came apart. Probably the worst thing I ever used to make an ingot.

Here are a couple of slightly better pics of ingots from the NOE mold.

Regardless of the type of mold you use a set of 1/4 inch stamps from a cheepy tool place and a clamp holder to stamp ingot with PB% SN% SB% unlike marker these don't rub off after even years of storage, handling, corrosion, or getting wet.

Now that is the best idea I have read here in a long time!

I'll bet the bullets from lead cast in those ingots will shoot straighter, lead less and get in the range lead bucket after being shot.

All I know is I smelted 100+ lbs of lead into ingots yesterday and had a big smile on my face each time I dumped out the four ingots.
Are they better because I use the mold? No, I just like the looks and part (most?) of this hobby for me is the fun factor.
I just enjoy it a bit more with this mold

I smelt using a Crockett Freon tank half over a propane burner, and ladle mix into various -- collected through the years -- Lyman, RCBS, SAECO, and Lee -- ingot moulds. I flux, mostly, three times before filling these -- now, 9?% fluxed COWWs. When I go to use my RCBS Pro-melt for making boolits -- I add RotoMetal super-hard, tin, antimony, etc. to make my appropriate mix for the boolit I'm casting.
I purchased one of these NOE's exclusively to pour left-over mix from the RCBS pot, so it -- being very different in looks from the others -- will be easily identifiable for future use. Did/does it work? Hey -- the proof of the pudding -- I just bought a 2nd NOE ingot mould! Mr. Nelson even has little inscriptions in the mould cavities, to enable enhancement of i.d.ing, too.
YES! These NOE ingot moulds surely have my endorsement!

The ingots look very nice when the mold is up to temp. The side view of an ingot from a less than optimum temp mold has strata or fold showing. I love mine! The pot can eat a preheated 1 lb ingot without freezing the pot or spigot.
