Just put 4 nice sized smoked ham hocks about 1/4 cup of onions and 2 peeled potatoes with about a quart of water to cook all night. In the morning will take out the hocks shread and remove the bones, mash the potatoes add some milk some diced peppers and grated carrots along with 2 diced potatoes and the meat back in to cook all day on low. About an hour before supper add some cheese on top. A nice hearty bowl of potato soup for supper tomorrow. I was deciding between this and bean soup, may save enough broth and meat outfor a small batch of bean soup also.

Just got me thinking about my grandma's potatoes soup. I happened to inherit her recipes a few years ago, and will have to find it tomorrow and try myself. Wont be the same since she had 70+ years of experience honing her craft but I'll give it a go! Thanks for the inspiration!!!

I vote for the bean soup! A few dashes of Tobasco sauce in your bowl gives it that extra bit of heat/spiceyness. We used to get very good smoked hocks from the Frau`s father, a German butcher that had a small shop. He`s been gone about 20 years now, never have found anybody that smoked meat the way he did.Robert

I'll second the vote for bean soup,I guess that's the same as soup beans and yes you need to add the cornbread and couple of fresh green onions,
A little chow-chow if your from the south.:bigsmyl2:

Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.
