Went handgun hunting today and picked up a nice clean, nearly unfired ruger sp101 4" with the rear blade in .32 H&R mag, I was looking for a new carry gun and camp gun, and this gun was one I always loved, its no .327 fed but its fun to shoot and should make a great kit gun for the southwest and california backcountry. I paid 600$ which i felt was reasonable, the gun had been fired a few shots by the guy I bought it from and was inherited, not even really a turn ring visible and the notches where clean. The gun is fun to shoot and should be cheap to reload for.

Even came with crimson laser grips (and the originals) which seemed to be dead on

That is a fantastic find. Stainless steel, good durable sights, DA, compact size and grips but a 4" tube; that's a great kit gun!
Excellent kit gun/field cartridge as well. I'm a bit envious.

BTW that model 15 is an outstanding gun as well. Find a bullet & load that shoots well, match the sights to the P.O.I. and NEVER change the combination. You just can't go wrong with a good 4" S&W K-frame in 38 Special.

Nice find, an a GREAT sunset! I too stumbled upon a nice ruger 32 recently. Mine is the same gun with a 3 inch and bored for the 327Federal. I shoot 32HRs in it with a load consisting of a 93 gr cast on 3.1 of W231. It shoots very well and is on the sights (unlike the 327Loads). The load was a convience as the Lil Dandy was in front of me setup for my 380 load. Lucky happenstance :)
Enjoy that SP, really nice kit gun. And don't let that 15 get away, sadly, they don't make them like that anymore.

I have had a Ruger SP101 for some time. It wouldn't shoot to the sights with most any load I tried. I took it to my local pistolsmith and had him mount a Red Dot sight (he thought I was out of my mind(:>)). However, it now shoots to the sights with a variety of loads (fully adjustable of course) and is now a VERY useful field pistol:

I mostly shoot a Group Buy 100 gr. Keith cast bullet. It cuts clean holes in paper and meat.

If you're still in Flag, Snyder's casts a 100gr LRNFP for the .32...Ruff's should have them in stock.

If you haven't try the RCBS 98 gr. SWC. Very consistant sub 1" 25 yd. boolit from my 6.5" Bisley Single Six. Best group of .46" It's a really great shooting design for the .32 Long/H&R mag. Good score and great pics.

Nice gun. I have an S&W that's a hoot to shoot. I've got 3 loads for it that work very well. The first is a LaserCast 115 grain FP over 7.7 grains of AA9 with a mag. primer. The next is a Hornady 100 grain XTP over 5.0 of Blue Dot with a standard primer. Both of these at about 1000 feet per second. The third is a Hornady 90 grain lead SWC at about 850 FPS over 3.5 grains of Unique. I use a light roll crimp and I've never had a problem with bullet jump.

Some people will tell you that these are conservative loads because of older revolvers that can't take the strain. They're probably right but there's little point in hot-rodding the H&R.

So true, it's a great small game round already and nothing you can do is going to make it a serious deer gun :)

Boy, that sure is an ugly looking gun! :bigsmyl2: I'd be ashamed to shoot that strange contraption at my home range, especially if I lived so close by that the villagers with torches and pitchforks could show up at my house one night. :kidding:

Isn't it strange what lengths we go to in the effort to keep outshooting our friends? Oh well, just don't do that to your Flat Tops or any more of your S&Ws. Hope to see you before tooooo long and we can compare notes over an adult beverage or two.

All the best,
Froggie

primersp;
I have a 16-4 with 6" barrel that I bought when they first hit the market:

I added the Red Dot Sight when I lost the vision in my right eye. The 16-4 shoots VERY well.

By the way, Andre, many years ago I spent a weekend in the South of France (during the Ribeauville Wine Festival). We were there with our son, his wife and daughter and had a truly great time. We will never forget it! We LOVED the Alsace region of France!

Froggie;
I will NOT scope or Red Dot my Flattop Rugers, but, no doubt, they would be a bit easier to shoot. Hey, it's what an old, blind, fat man, needs to do to stay up with his younger friends!:veryconfu
