Which spring kit do you recommend and why? "Lees Gunsmithing-Rossi 92 Spring Kit", "Palo Verde Reduced Tension Spring Kit", "Steves Gunz Spring Kit", "OTHER"?

Looks as though the Palo Verde has some extras for spacing/shimming?

If all goes as planned, R92 357 20" octagon barrel case harden receiver will be inbound tomorrow and will have the spring kit in route too.

Thanks for any help/info,

tnaz

I used the Lee kit in my Rossi, with no problems. It made things much better. I don't know anything about the other kit. I will say that installing the new ejector spring is a chore. In the end I had to make up a dummy round to hold everything together long enough to reinstall the bolt back into the receiver.

Thanks Vann for your input.

Gun and kit on the way.

You will be happy with it. I put my rifle together and tore it back down about probably three times, polishing here and there on the bolt and action. When I finally finished it, the difference it made was unbelievable.

Don't be surprised if after putting your spring kit in your rifle feels and acts like it's out of time. In most cases the feed ramps need to be opened up a bit in the sides of the receiver
The overly strong ejector spring hides this problem and when you put in the softer spring you'll start scratching your head trying to figure out what you did wrong.

There are some very good websites out there that go through the whole action job process in great detail, take your time and it'll turn out fine.

I just woke up so my head is still a bit foggy, so forgive me if ramble a bit.

I just wanted to mention that the new ejector spring was softer than the old spring but it's also several coils longer to make up for the super hard factory spring. I just about gave up trying to install it, it seemed impossible at first. Basically you have to install the spacer ring and spring on the ejector. Then hold everything in line and press it in the ejector hole. After you get it in you need a dummy cartridge or just a empty case that you can hook into the extractor and hold the ejector in place while you reinstall the bolt. Usually once you get the dummy round started into the chamber everything will stay together long enough for you to get your lever back into place and reinstall the link pin.

I don't know how much experience you have had with 92's so I just wanted to throw that in.

Happy shootin'

The DVD that is sold by Steve at Steves'Gunz is well worth the money. It teaches you how to tear down your 92 and service it. It shows you how to use the original springs and modify them to be a lighter, easier action to use. Later David

Lots of good info on Rossi's here: http://rossi-rifleman.com/viewforum.php?f=9&sid=8c6b2c6d8b4e077a1d6895e40c621c5a

I hope Steve has upgraded the quality of his video, mine is so grainy it's at times difficult to see. i.e. the video ISN'T in HD quality, or even in 720p format. The content is excellent, the video quality is crappy.

I purchased mine in 2008 and it was fine and still is. You may have other problems. Later David

I'm another vote for no video problems. I might have had some shots set up differently, but that isn't a problem with quality.

I got a SS follower from some guy in the NE, Vermont, New Hampshire . . . somewhere up there.

I read and believe ti to be true (about the plastic follower) not if, but when it is going to fail.

You know they could ave them stamped out almost a cheap as the plastic.

What is 50 cents on 500 dollar gun.

The problems with the plastic followers is that the material they are made from is very easy to nick and cut causing strands of plastic to stick out from them. This then leads to a sticking in the magazine and also allowing the follower to become imbedded with various problem objects. The SS followers are the best way to go and regular cleaning of the magazine tube stops any problems from coming up.

Maybe this place in Warwick RI? http://www.thesmithshop.com/magfollow.html

Their prices for followers, springs, and definitely shipping are much better than some other well known shops.

I made one myself using 2 empty cartridge cases. Here's how I did it: http://www.rossi-rifleman.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3738

In addition to silver soldering them together, you also have to turn down the rim of the .40 case a little. I did that by spinning it in a drill press and touching a file and some sandpaper to it.

Easy enough to make for the average home tinkerer.

Rather than paying $8.50 plus $10 shipping to a certain Rossi expert, you can replace your ejector spring with an inexpensive, but high quality, US made spring that works perfectly. It drops the empties at your feet, rather than launching them into orbit like the stock one, and isn't difficult to install like the gun shop ones. It's a Century C-530, comes in a multi pack at the hardware store for a few bucks. Or get a pack of 6 for $3.89 with free delivery here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/C-530-Compression-Spring-Open-Stock-for-display-for-300-2-L-/171331508393?hash=item27e42758a9

This U-Tube video has simple instructions on how to take apart your 92, change your spring, and best of all, how to put it all back together. Took me a couple of tries to line everything up, but it's doable even by the likes of me. https://video.search.yahoo.com/video/pl ... mp=yhs-001

Maybe next one, already have the gunslinger for this one.

Thanks, will write the info down though,
