This is the new Lee 358-200-RF; "Yep, I said, Lee." It appears to be an almost exact copy of the RCBS 35-200 mold.

In the picture, loaded into 357 Magnum cases, to be tested (shortly, I hope) in my 357 rifle.

Sounds like a fun project! Please include some details about load, rifle and results.

Have a great weekend

Greetings
That should put them down. I am very happy with heavy for caliber boolits. Sitting here looking at those loads makes me think that would be a dandy boolit in a 357 Max lever rifle. But even in a 357 mag it should jump right up in velocity and put a good "thwap" on whatever it smacks into. What mix did you cast those from...

I have tried some of the 200 grains in my 357 and just using WWs alloy found they just keep going so they should work great on something like a hog. I would soften them up for deer. I wanted to check to see how deep they would go and three 4/4 posts was not a issue for the bullet. Noted that the bullet was not deformed very much at all. Solely based off of that is why I would soften up my alloy before going after a deer I feel the speed of the bullet is not reaching what is needed to mushroom the bullet. This has been a few years back but I think I had to load them into 38 cases to keep the OAL down so they would work in my lever gun which is another ballgame.
Good luck and btw they look great will be waiting for your findings and insight on your results. BTW what alloy are you using ?

Tell me more about the mold. Is it a gas checker. Did you have a custom mold made since I don't see it on their site or on MidSouth's site under custom molds?

It is a "new product" for Lee and it is a GC. More discussion is at http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?283606-New-LEE-design-358-200-RF

That ought to put the smackdown on a deer or hog :)

Mike, and ALL-

I think this bullet would be fantastic in a 357 Maximum. I have two friends who own 35 Remington rifles who will be helping me test this round also. Since deer season has already opened in the Midlands of SC, hopefully, it won't take them long.

RP- My alloy is 90/10 COWW and Linotype. I plan to heat treat about 50 for deer hunting; otherwise, its "Schmackdown" time on vermin (coyote). (Coyotes are almost epidemic here in SC, yet you never hear much about them in the media or from wildlife officials.)

Folks, I would jump on this mold, pronto. Its going to be really popular for those who want a lighter bullet in 358 Win; 35 Whelen, etc. I'm even considering rechambering my 03' Sporter to 35 Whelen. Enjoy, my friends,

Late note: In the post from the link noted above, it was stated that this bullet is too long for a 357 revolver. NOT SO. It was the first thing I tried in a friends S&W 686, and it was close, but fit fine. And even with a 200gr gas check bullet over 5.5gr of Salut' (Russian Unique), I'm still guessing it is only ~1100 out of my rifle; slower in a pistol. Any thoughts?

A good mild load. I'm interested to hear the performance you get from this boolit using a hotter magnum load. That big long heavy for calibur boolit should sing when pushed harder.

Does anyone have the the Lee number for that mold? Should be a five digit number starting with 90, 90***. I'm putting an order together at Midsouth and would like to slip one of these in there. PM please.

With the small meplat , would you want to cast it on the soft side for a handgun cartridge?

Cartridges that fit in the 686 might be too long for the 27 with its shorter cylinder. The saeco 180gr is probably the limit in my 27 unless I went to 38 spl cases.
When I get my 357 mag barrel back from T/C it should work in it.
