Help cleaning Lee 10# bottom pour

I got a small 10# Lee bottom pour from a friend and I want to use for different/special alloys but it has leak/clog problems. I would like to thoroughly clean and maybe lap to improve control but, how do I get it cleaned enough? Does anyone have tips on getting the nipple & seat cleared of lead? Or, should I just drill out the hole and put compound on the nipple and start lapping?

Appreciate any experience with this.
