C. Sharps 1875 Sporting/Target rifle, .45/70. A fellow want's something I have and he put this up for trade. A pretty even swap I'm thinking. My rifle is just a safe queen and has been for some 10+ years, an original P-53 Enfield rifle musket. This Sharps is growing on me, I'm thinking seriously of doing the deal.

What y'all think?

I probably wood - I don't have safe queens.

I had one of those 1875 sharps in 45/70 and just shot cast with smokeless, very accurate. And like an idiot sold it. Frank

That's a tough call and would depend on your intended use. Both are great rifles.

If i had a safe queen, it would not be able to fire.... Might as well hang it on the wall

The Enfield is a rare one, type II with the band springs made by Robins and Lawrence of Windsor VT. for the Brits during the Crimean War. I last shot it in N-SSA competition in the 90's, just been in the back of the safe since then, dollar wise, I think I'm making out in an even swap. Looks like some expensive sights on that Sharps!

An 1875 C. Sharps was what sparked my interest in BPCR shooting in the late '90's. A guy had one cradled in one of those Outer's Rests on a bench and put seven shots into a handspan at 600 yards, black powder and cast boolits. Later on he used it to beat the rest of us shooting prone at 600, against smokeless/jacketed loads in modern rifles. I'm still impressed.

If the C. Sharps sights are on it, I would say it's a pretty fair swap.

That is a tough call. I would love to have an enfield myself but sharps are great rifles. I have 9 including 4 originals. Yes, I have a problem, no I am not doing anything about it.

Well, if you do decide to do anything about your problem, move forward and get another!

Deluxe long range rear sight and wind gauge front, I forgot to ask if it has the spirit level, but looks like it might.

Beautiful rifle, and I would love to find a Sharps rifle at a reasonable price... :)

i can speak about yer safe queen, but you asked for opinions and without knowing the barrel length/weight and overall mass weight and rifling twist, i'd pass on that c.sharps as it doesn't have a double set trigger and the tang sight has no soule micrometer windage. can't tell if the front globe has a spirit level, but that'd be required for me as well.

globe adjustable windage and none on the tang vernier is a huge no-no PITA for me. think about messing with it at a match .... ugh.

No match shooting for me, and I hate and despise double set triggers.

Original vs replica. No brainer for me, they're not making anymore.

Point is, I don't shoot this thing anymore, I don't do anything with it, it sits in the back of the safe only to come out once in a while for an oily rag wipe down. Been thinking of getting rid of all the guns I haven't used in over ten years and replacing them with guns I'll use.

45-70 is a whole lot of fun. I just traded one for a 32-40. Beginning to think I may have made a mistake.

However, if you will use it, then it is just a question of how attached are you to the Enfield? If not so much, then I'd do the swap.

Now you know you're doing something about it!
You are probably keeping an eye out for #10.:bigsmyl2:

With no attachment to the queen , it sounds reasonable to get the one you will enjoy .

Do you know the future value of either rifle?

you can get the trigger up-graded to single set and the guys at C Sharps are friendly as opposed to the bad vibe place down the street..............
