Loading .300 Savage. Book says one thing, but practical application dictates something else. What are your results with this load, 10gr Unique. This load will be shot in a Remington 722 bolt.

My opinion only. As long as it will cycle reliably you should have no problem other than a slight drop in pressure. It also appears you will be losing one lube grove, but at the expected velocities that should not be an issue.

I'm not even gonna look at the numbers.
you got what you got for functioning. [and fitment]
if this means an exposed lube groove [maybe]
so what? don't put lube in it, one lube groove is enough.

does the boolit go in the chamber? [without shoving it super hard]
does it scuff somewhere? [drive band/nose engraving, good that's what you want]
does it come back out? [yes? perfect]
your good to go there.

now if the question is about pressure, look at how much pressure is generated by the load to begin with.[35,000 psi-ish]
do you think changing the oal or engraving the nose is going to make that much of a difference? [maybe 2-3k]
are you using a powder known for spiking from initial pressure starts [no in this case, yes with some others]

I would make up a dummy round and check all of the above.
then put some powder in some cases and go shoot them later today.

What you will realize is the jacketed bullet oal and boolit oal will be different.
The boolit basically has the tip missing and you will not be able to load it to the same oal as a jacketed bullet. The boolits ogive will hit the rifling before you are able to close the bolt completely.

I had the same thing in reverse when I loaded my 45/70 with a spitzer bullet.
45/70 published oal is about 2.550", my spitzers are at 2.770.
Both are loaded for the ogive to be just a hair off the rifiling.

And here is differing oal in a .308 with different bullets.

Makes you wonder why they have crimp grooves.

Makes you wonder why they have crimp grooves.

Sometimes they are not considered for crimp grooves, but actual hindrance to over expansion. It is more of a factory thing because of different magazine dimensions and the factory does not know what gun you are shooting and it's lead dimension. It is more necessary on tubular magazines and cartridges with heavier recoil. Seating the boolit close to the lands is usually a general accuracy enhancement.

never used book O/A unless I ran into a problem with length of cartridge or mag length
Use to load a blank round way long and seat bullet in rifle then back of .010 for starters
