Recently picked up a new to me Ruger new model blackhawk in 45 colt. It's stainless with the 7 1/2 inch barrel. I fired some handloads consisting of the rcbs 270 SAA cast bullet running about 1050 fps and it shot about a foot, 12 inches high at 25 yards, with the rear sight cranked all the way down.
Obviously I need a taller front sight blade. This model has the blade pinned in so it would be simple to replace.

Does anyone know where I can buy taller front sight blades for this resolver? Brownells has one but I'm pretty sure its the same height as the one curently on the gun which won't help. I can make one out of 1/8 inch mild steel flat bar but I'm being lazy.
Thanks for any help you can provide. 308w

Uhhh, why not call Ruger? They do have some taller front blades.

I agree with contender1, Ruger should send you the correct sight free of charge since it's obviously the wrong one.

You can also use a lower rear sight blade. Much cheaper than monkeying with the front sight.

IF you can find one low enough. Unfortunately that was inadequate in my case.

I had the same problem a few years ago with a new Black hawk convertible in 45 Colt. Turns out the frame was not completely tapped through for the rear sight screw. The tap is the same size as the one for scope mounts. Completed the tapping, and the rear sight depressed enough to sight in properly.
