Bought me a brick of 6 1/2 primers at one of the few LGS. Once you consider S&H plus HAZMAT, I still came out ahead. Is there some sort of delay with the Rem 6 1/2s getting out? I dimly remember one major retailer without any...

But...I now got some milder primers, a choice of Lil Gun, Unique, MP 300, 800x, Red Dot... And more...

Looking at a 40-45 grain jacketed chugging along at 1,600 for squirrel. Cast boolits will be included if I find a 225438 in time. It may seem confusing why I'd want to settle on the 438 when more boolits would work in a 21" G2 carbine... But there is an old 22 Short low wall re-chambered to 22K which does great with jacketed, but sux with lead... It has the slow twist of the era... I'd love to get a 225107, but they usually go a little rich.

So... I snagged a 22H RCBS die set from fleabay for the neck and body sizing. I can set up my RCBS competition seater die for 22 calibre, and whip out a 22R M die.

Federal 200 is equivalent to the Remington 6-1/2 and works great in small CF cartridges such as the .25-20, .32-20, .22 Hornet, .30 Carbine and. 357 Mag.

I dug into brisiance of the various brands n flavors. To my chagrin, there seems to be NO actual published information on primers where one could say - that one's too hot, that one is too cold, but THIS one is just right!

Calhoon has the primer cup thickness. A number of different methods using BBs or pellets, moving arms, flash signatures, but nothing I came across that said what primer for what range of case volumes with what type (single, double base, ball, stick, flake) powder.

I've always used 61/2s in the Hornet

Seems to be a perennial favorite, the CCI BR4 has been mentioned as well. As always, empirical evidence wins every time... My RCBS 22 Hornet dies arrived, looks nice.

I too like 6½'s in the Hornet, but I also like small pistol primers, especially with low-vel cast loads. 6 grains 2400 or 4 grains Unique + the Lee Bator bullet + an ancient Alcan SP primer and the flies on the 50 yard target better watch out! I'll cry when my stash of those sweet Alcan SP primers are gone. I cut those powder charges by a grain when I use the 225438 bullet- it just works out that way in my gun.

In my Mashburn Bee I use that same primer and 5 grains of Titegroup.
