I saw a video where a slide stop had been filed on a 1911. It was able to be inserted straight into the frame without having to depress the pin.

Any advise. opinions, or tips before I begin thinking this is a great idea and want to try doing it myself?

If it is correctly made you should be able to just snap it in by hand without pushing the detent back. Filing it to the proper form is kind of tricky to do just right as the slide stop MUST NOT ride up under recoil but MUST contact the follower and come up on the empty mag. I would recommend that if you do this you either get a couple spares for *****s or you just buy a Wilson and put it in.

I can see the slide stop wanting to work its way out by itself without the detent holding it in. Not really a good thing to have happen.

I have done this modification on several 1911 slide stops. No function issues, and the slide stop just snaps into place.
Go for it.
