I just tried some light but load book based loads of 8700. Some of the loads were so low in pressure that they did not burn all of the powder. Today I noticed that when I was using my powder measure, rcbs, the powder weights varried by a grain or 2 most of the time. Since it is a ball powder, I expected no powder weight variation. H4350 rarely varries .1 grains with this set up. When I filled the powder measure to the top, the powder weight varriation seemed to dissapear. Is this powder that sensitive to a full powder measure, vs 1/3 full? Should I just pick up some lee dippers and forget about weighing them? thanks Oh I used WLR primers.

Do you have the baffle ?

I found I got better throw to throw consistancy with my measure after I installed it

Also with large amounts , how you do it realy matters

I use a home made holder , stick the case under and try to do exactly the same thing each time
If I varry , I dump the case and redo

That powder is an equal to WC860 or WC872 i do not have any luck with them unless compressed, also have had good luck with duplexed loads. Search for WC860 or WC872 lots on them here.

I sure hate to hear that AA8700 has been dropped. I use it alot for 7mm mag and 2506. I haven't bought any within the last year. I also use a RCBS powder measure and AA8700 works great in it.

I've long suspected, with no proof, that AA8700 was a large surplus lot of new WC872. I'll bet it's simply run out, as Hodgdon's batch of WC870 that they sold as H870 did.
