View Full Version : Lyman Bullet Sizing Die Dimensions?

I'm considering adding a Lyman .360 die to my old 45 sizer of that brand and wonder what the "as-sized" diameter of bullets will be? In other words, will the bullets mike at 0.360, or something smaller? In using the handy Lee die ( which isn't available in 0.360) I find the sized diameters are slightly smaller than the designated diameter. Wondering if the same is true of Lyman dies?

I guess I could enlarge a Lee gadget, but I'd like to use the Lyman 45 for lube purposes.

Look forward to your responses.

The Lyman & RCBS dies I use in my 450's and RCBS LAMII seem to finish at the size marked. Minor changes occur over time but not enough to matter. I use a Lyman .360 that is about 4 years old, it finishes my .362 castings to .360 nicely.

However, the amount of antimony in your alloy is likely to cause the bullets to "spring back" a bit in size. They could be .360 one day, and in a few days be just under .361. Only trial and error can give you a feeling for how much certain alloys spring back, and how long it takes

The RCBS sizing dies which will work in a Lyman are set up or at least they once were to size at .005 below the stamped size which takes care of some spring back. My Star dies which are made by Lathesmith are always made this way. I shoot the custom mold 44 wcf bullet from a set of guns that all have the correct bore size of .427 and I size them with the .429 die that does them at .4285. Take Care David
