There was a post of someone who asked about the optimum BHN for a 44 mag
can't seem to find the post any where
anyway I was at the range yesterday and fired these 12 out of my SBH at 50 yds.
the alloy was quite hard (for me I usually never w/q)50/50 alloy w/q with tin added
the boolit is a 320 gr Accurate with 21.5 gr W296 and a wlp
this particular batch of ammo is old and I came upon them on chance

I use WD, WW metal of 20 to 22 BHN in my .44's. Anything softer gives me fliers. Softer NEEDS a GC and you can improve them by annealing the GC's.
I got 50-50 to shoot fair but they needed oven hardened and had to have a GC.146332 This is the RD 265 at 50 and 100 on the can. I hit the rail with the can so shot the last shot higher. It has held 3/4" at 50 and 1-1/4" at 100.

Your target is typical of a mag primer, try the FED 150.

If I could find them I will try
that was a Winchester large pistol primers used
are they magnum primers?

Most are labeled for standard or magnum loads, I think they are a little hotter in the pressure area.
The CCI 300 has also worked for me. Rem standards too.

I started out with Rem primers when I started reloading and used then with confidence.

One other thing, was that new brass?
All the tests I made with new brass are the worst, with 50 shots all over the paper, about 7 different group POI's. I just loaded them without measuring seating pressures and the case tension is all over the place, I can feel it when seating.
After several loadings, groups improve.146499 This is a 50 shot session with a scope from the bench at 50 yards. You can plainly see new brass is not best in revolvers.
Never anneal revolver brass either.
