I just picked one up fairly cheap. It appears to be well done with good riviots and straight front sight.I ran 200 rounds of tula ball and while not a tack driver it was dead on with zerod sight at 100 yards.maybe mine is a fluke but they are worth picking up and looking at anyhow . now to dig up those loaded rounds from my sks days with Eds nei #72 6 cavity I got back when Walt Mealnder cut good molds.

Id rather have a WASR10 than an AR, I'll tell you that. I want to get one for a truck gun.

I would agree. Goes bang every time. With a little polishing they run well.

I have one that is a 10/63 and it will shoot 3/4 inch groups at 100

I rather enjoyed my WASR 10. Great truck gun, hits Echo targets to 300 yds reliably, and ran without a hitch. I sold it during 2013 along with 500 rds of 7.62 and 4 magazines and made enough to buy an Arsenal made AK. Good times.

The cost of a WASR 10 today would have me looking around at other options, as many good variants can be found in that price range. Man, I miss the good days of buying an AK at the pawnshop for $250.00.

Youngsters, I miss buying them for $75 and MAADI for $99 - New

Most of the AK accuracy issues I traced back to the Surplus Ammo.
They shoot good with good ammo. Though SKS in my experience groups better than AK's.

Dang fogies buying up all the good stuff

I concur with your statement concerning ammo, and the SKS. I did load development for a couple of my AK's and there was improvement. One was a significant improvement, the others it was a noticeable but not earth shattering improvement. Since getting 7.62x39 reloadable brass can be a challenge at times, I feed them the cheapest bottom of the barrel non corrosive ammo I can find.

I'd take an M4. Short, handy, and the bee's knees in a vehicle with a 20 rd magazine. In my short time on this rock, I've found reliability between the two platforms to be a wash.

I bought my first Norinco ak in 1984 for $250.I never saw $100 ak's in my gun shop and pawnshop buying days. We did have $65 sks sales though.cases of 1100 steel core for $60
I shot about 200 rounds of tula today to get the sights set.agsin no malfunctions and about 2" groups at 50 yards with irons.it came with a Midwest industries front guard that's over $100 new.I'd rather have wood but for what I paid I can't complain.

In about 1982 the MAADI's were first imported cheaper than the VALMET's so I ordered in one of the first from Golden State Arms in CA - at that time I had an FFL so wholesale was 99 - About the same time frame (within a year or two you could get the Chinese cheaper - Norinco (PRC Army mfg), Jing-an (China's Police/Secret Police mfg), and Russian followed.
All cut off by Presidential Executive Order in 1989 - they did workaround MAK-90 imported up until 1994 then no more china AK's - Russian AK's were of course cut off by Obama recently and we have had lots of other com-block imports that came in.

what is different about a WASR 10, and any other AK?
the pic shows a pistol grip, and (picatinny?) hand guard?
Is the multitude of name variants like the Barbie doll dress up items that is found with AR platform?

Whats wrong is someone wants a AR so they put a TAPCO style handguard on it.

this is a project from a decade ago. Its finished now but don't have a pic avail online

I always get confused between the SAR series and the WASR series.

I know the sar was imported as a 10 rd single stack magazine weapon with a thumbhole stock.
Once imported they removed the thumbhole stock and milled out the mag well for a standard 30rd mag.
The SAR was 100% foreign made parts. They put US MADE parts when they switched the stock.

I think the wasr was assembled in the USA.
The think you need to worry about is the heat treatment of the rear rivets.
They all had problems at one time or another with the barrel being clocked wrong and the front site post being at 1230 or so vs 1200

sar and wasr is romanian based.
For the most part you deal with ak74 or ak47 which is basically 5.45 or 7.62x39
5.56x45 (223) Ak's were made on both platforms
Russian 5.56 guns used the AK74 platform for everything. The main change just was the bolt and the diam of the barrel

Shot last night after work to zero the sights at 100.with misc ball ammo groups were 3-4". It is easy to shoot and when I run my cast loads I'll scope it.
