Is it possible? Know a gent who has a barrel that'll fit a savage and am interested. Love me some big bores.

I don't know. I think 44 automag is made from cutoff 308. Not sure of the case taper but your looking at about 22 thousandths give or take. I don't think it'll work well but I've been wrong before.

what about the rim ?? 460 SW is .520" .308 is only .473"

Of course it's not a 460 S&W because of the rim. But other than the rim, you are there, in theory. Good luck to you. Should be pretty neat in a savage.
