Local scrap yard sold me some bars of lead alloy today with a composition of :
93.4 pb which is Lead, 3.84 Sb which is Antimony, and 2.31 As which is Arsenic.
Question is.... I intend to use it as if it were Wheel Weight alloy to make a Lyman #2 alloy. Does anyone need high Arsenic alloy for a different or special blend, or is it a moot point? 3 bars were scraped clean and tested with the same results. Got 400 lbs today with more coming. Am I wasting someone else's precious commodity?

Most of the wheel weight mix will show some arsenic in it. I'd say use it. Make sure to add in some tin to get complete cavity fill. It should work fine.

Arsenic is beneficial for hardening purposes. I've never seen wheel weights w/ that high of a percentage. But it's not going to hurt anything.

About 10x what is needed for H.T., don't have any idea of how it would cast or shoot.

Arsenic helps with water dropped or heat treating. Only takes a tiny amount to facilitate the reaction, less than 1% so you have an abundance in that alloy.

Shotmakers are always looking for a source of arsenic. Makes the shot drop rounder.

Now all you need is some OLD LACE! (movie reference for those movie buffs out there!)

I have a source for old lace... my ex... but it is now too contaminated to get close to.

I know the feeling.

I would add pure lead and tin to the mix to get a really good alloy.

I'm thinking the same thing.

Be careful when melting, the acrid fumes of arsenic will give you a bad headache. Stay upwind. Don't ask how I know.
