Well I've looked at a couple mods for molds like "beagling" and HP'ING a mold. This interests me.

I've got a lyman 266469 that I wouldn't mind opening up a little to better suit my old war horses. Also have a Lee 2cav 452-200 mold I'd love to be made into a hollow point.

The kicker is, I don't have access to any of the reqd. tools. My question is, is there anyone on here that would undertake the mods?

"Beagling" is simply putting heat resistant tape between the mould blocks to increase the diameter slightly. This does result in an out of round bullet in those cases that the cavities were concentric to start with. Many are slightly wider at the parting line area, so the result is usually more or less round, but not worse than before. You can buy LEE moulds already hollowpointed from Erik at Hollowpoint Mold Service if you like, or the average cost to hollowpoint a 2 cavity mould normally runs about $50.00 per cavity. That's a lot to spend on a $20.00 mould.

Have you heard of the NOE group buy for a larger sized clone of the 266469. They could use a few more to sign up for it, too....

Eric did a great HP job on my Saeco 4 cavity, but I wouldn't waste the money on a Lee mold. I would convert a quality mold or buy a NOE brass mold that is set up for HP, either way you will have a keeper.

Those can be made with a huge hollow point that expands down to 700 fps.

Do you have the old or new style Lee blocks?
