I am curious if any guys are powder coating or using hitek coating for their 30 carbine. I have read that regular cast bullets can make a mess of things but I am not sure if I buy that either. A nice member sent me a sample of bullets to try and I am curious what other guys are doing in order to shoot cast in their m1s.

I have been shooting regular lubed cast bullets in my M1 carbine for a couple of years with no issues. I am using a gas checked bullet, though.
Recently, I did make up a batch with Hitek coating, they shot fine, no leading, about the same accuracy. I've got another batch made up to do a bit more testing, but haven't gotten around to shooting them.
You've motivated me, I'll try to get to them this week.

I have been shooting cast in the M1 carbines for about 12 years now. Both regular lube and Hi-Tek coated. No problems with either. Do use a gas check as it makes it easier to get jacketed velocities with equal or better accuracy.

I'm shooting lee 309-120-r boolit gas checked with enough H110/296 to get 1800 fps.
TAC 1 for lube with good accuracy, no leading and gas system clean as a whistle.

I have shot a number of rounds using 15 grains of L'il Gun with a 100-105 grain cast bullet with a gas check. No info on speed but functions the action very nicely.

Lee C309-113-F. Sized to .309, BHN 15. Gas checked with two coats of Alox. Most accurate with VV N110. Feeds and functions every time.

I ONLY shoot powder coated boolits in my 30 carbine. Mine likes the Lee 113 FP or the 120RN they look to be the same boolit other than the nose. I also size the Lee TL314-90-swc down (should say swage) to 309 and it feeds flawlessly. I use H-110 or IMR 4227 12.5 to 14.5gr in mine.Gp

I've also been shooting cast (no coatings) in my 1943 Inland carbine for a couple of years now. I've used only the Lyman 311359, checked and sized to .310, Carnuba Red lube, 11.4 gr 2400. Shoots great (both accuracy and functional) and no leading whatsoever. I've recently acquired (from a member here) a Lyman 311576 an I'm excited to see how these perform. Evidently that boolit was designed specifically for the Carbine but I've yet to load any to see if there's any improvement from what I normally shoot. Another change will be powder....my stock of 2400 is almost done but I've found some H110 which I'm sure will give great results too.

I've had no fouling or other issues with the carbine using the RCBS 30-115 boolit, gas check and NRA formula lube. Accuracy is as good as jacketed boolits.

I've been casting and loading carbine rounds using a 311359BV Lyman with gas checks for the last 5 years or so. Bullet weight with gas check and lube is 126gr. Accuracy is much better than surplus ball ammo, no fowling any worse than ball ammo. Load is 12 gr. of 2400 functions the action perfectly. The pointed bullet seams to carry further with less of a arc. Only caution I'd note here is my first couple of batches I used CCI standard primers. If you load the rifle as a single shot, one in the barrel, let the bolt slam home, it will slam fire. Both of my Winchester carbines that are in very good condition will do this. Load from the magazine only, and you will be fine, the bolt stripping a round from the mag slows the bolt speed down and seams to prevent slam fires. If I can ever find mil spec small rifle primers, I'll use them next time, they are supposed to be harder and take more of a impact. Reloading for the carbine with this bullet is one of my most successful rounds taking the least time in the workup process.

I fired 10s of thousands of Lyman 311008s lubed with Lyman 50/50 in my ww2 era carbine.
Sized .311.

No problems. Most fun gun I ever owned.

I don't have the years of experience some here have, but I'm having a lot of fun with my carbines. So far my best results have been with the Lee C309-120-R and the 113-F they seem to be the same boolit other than the nose. I gas check and powder coat these. I've used H-110 IMR 4227 RL7 and 1680 to good effect. In MY Universal carbine this is what they ran through the chrono. 12.6 4227 Av 1684 Sd 12 13gr H-110 Av 1864 Sd13 14.2gr 1680 Av 1632 Sd 15 Though they are far from the most accurate guns I own, I have to say they are sure fun. Gp

12.5 gr. W296/H110 and the 115-ish 311359. Ejects fine and real accurate. Once every couple hundred rounds, clean out gas plunger and port area. Never had much luck with 311410 but good shooting with Lee 120 grain rngc.

I like my 9mm M1 a lot also and the brass is free for picking up at the range. These little carbines are just fun to shoot with BOOLITS! Gp

At my local toystore last weekend I saw an M1 Carbine in 45Win Mag..

My comment to both the salesman and the friend I was with was that I'd be happy finding one
in either 45ACP or 9mm...

One thing about a true pistol caliber such as 9mm is that it would be cheaper to feed not to mention
easier to load for, the 30Carbine case is not "progressive friendly" even when used with Carbide dies...

I've loaded thousands of .30 carbine rounds on my Dillon 550B with no problems. I do use carbide dies. I haven't found the 30 carbine to be any more "difficult" to load on that progressive press than it is with any pistol cartridge.

I agree with Larry! I did make a powder funnel that belles the case mouth while dropping powder, which helps.
