Any .32-40 shooters that would like to share what powder they use in their 32-40?
I've been using IMR 4227. Its dirty and my groups are not consistant. Not familiar with some of the newer powders.
Thanks for any help.

Are these loads to be used in an old revolver or a strong rifle like a Marlin or Winchester?

My rifle is a Ruger #1 and the cast bullet is 190 gr.

All I have ever used in the 32-40 is SR 4759 but it has been discontinued-If you look around there might still be some to be found. If you like it load up on it as there will be no more made.

Dooh! I'm sorry. I transposed 32/20 for 32/40. Shouldn't have wasted the the post.

I have an old 1894 in 32-40 and I use IMR 3031 at 30-30 starting load levels, It works good. I also am looking at trying Accurate 2015 in it.

Universal, Unique, IMR4198, 5744, and H4895 with the Lyman 160 grain plainbase flatnose. Reloder 7 is not listed in my notes for that bullet, but it would be worth a try as well.

In original Winchester 1894 .32-40 Rifles, H4895 has performed well for many years. Buuuuuuut, I've read about and am testing RL-7 in the old 1894 calibers. Haven't made it yet to testing RL-7 in the .32-40.
