I mixed some pure lead and "tin" solder today for my first try at 45-70 boolits. I made a 20:1 mix and the hardness, with the Lee hardness tester, was 10.5. Is this average for a 20:1 mix? I used two Lee molds. Hollow base average of ten was 400 gr. Flat base average was .459 gr. Maybe pure lead would be 405 and 500 as listed. I'm going with smokeless powder and have used Lee liguid alox as a lube. I've used the alox on my wheel weight Vetterli bullets without any leading problem. I'll be using low pressure loads as I'm shooting them in an original 1888 trapdoor. They measure out to .459. Just wondering if boolits this soft are ok with the alox.
