OK, I bought a used 45 off here a while back, and recently picked up a midway lube heater. I went to see how the holes line up, and notice there is a nut coming from the guide rod which protrudes out of the bottom of the sizer a little ways. Enough so, that it blocks me from pushing the entire base onto the heater. Is this normal, and I need to make room for the nut? Might be hard to imagine, and I may need to take pictures of whats going on. I saw some other photos from the clean up thread, and mine looks different on the bottom, hope I didn't get a bubba'd sizer.

I have not taken it apart to clean it up yet, was trying to get all my pieces together and was trying to mate these 2 together when I noticed the issue.

There should be no nuts on the bottom. Take a pic?

I will when I get home, or will see if the wife can take one for me.

I've a 4500 not a 45. On the 4500 the bolt (pressure screw) running up through the lube reservoir pushes out the bottom. If it has lube built up under it's head it can protrude. Warm it up with a hair dryer enough to soften lube then pull it apart and dig out the buildup.

Wife sent these. Wondering if the screw needs to come out and go in through the top? Does the inside have a recess for the nut to sit in?

Nope. She's been bubba'd. There ain't no nut on it. The round head of that big long screw sits up flush in that hole and spins as you turn the screw from the top.

Here's a few pics of one of mine that I just snapped.....

Here is the screw extended down a little to show the head.

Kinda of a closer up, but bad focus. You get the idea and can see the head and threads starting.

And when it's pulled up in there (as you tighten the pressure nut)...

You might be able to take that nut off and it'll work, or possibly it might need a small washer or shim, even if made of cardboard (milk carton or orange juice carton, etc..... thin waxed cardboard) and just run the bare screw back up through there and it'll work fine. If not, just get a new screw and you'll only need the washer/shim then if the hole is buggered up. But it's probably not. She'll live to lube again, either way!

I don't have a 450 or 4500, so somebody else can tell you if it's still the same part number for the long pressure screw.

No.

That part is called a pressure screw. Yours has been bubba'd.
Lyman has that part availible...item #9 for $6

BUT, I would cleanout all the old lube and check the Pressure nut, to see if it's OK. then place an order for the parts you need.

The screw on both my 45 and 450 were well worn (mainly the hex on the top end). I ordered two screws and they work equally fine on both sizers. Apparently they did not change the specs on that particular part.

Here is the pressure nut. Props to my wife for taking it apart. Said reservoir is empty. 145484

That pressure nut looks like mine. As long as the down side looks that good and the threads aren't boogered it should be fine.

Thanks Jon, I had the same problem with one of my 45's, it was missing the pressure screw.
