I am new to .30-30 , but I am not new to shooting , reloading or bullet casting .

I am trying the Lee mold for 180 grain bullet , intended for .303 Brit or 7.62 x 54R .

I made a test round by barely seating the bullet in the case and hand loading the round into the chamber of the Marlin . I then closed the action , which seated the bullet with the nose of the bullet touching the riflings .

I then did this with my Winny M94 . Seems like quite a difference in the resulting seating depth ? Think the Marlin has the longer throat , but I may have this backwards ?

Have any of you all seen this difference in throat between Marlin & Winny in .30-30 ?

Thanks ,
Wyr

God bless

They are definetly different. Hunt up 45 2.1, on this forum. He has measurements of both.

The Marlin usually has a tighter throat, at least on the several i've checked. The Winchester would always have a larger one and will let you seat a bigger nosed boolit out farther.
