I recently found some bullets on the shelf . Part of a batch of mixed calibers of bullets I bought several years .

These are in a metal Crisco can . Written on the side " 220 grain .313" " .

They have been gas checked . I am thinking of lubing & sizing them for .30-30 .

Does the Marlin .30-30 have a fast enough twist for 220 grain cast lead bullets ?

Winny M94 ?

God bless

Marginal at best especially if anything other than a flat point. The only way to tell is to try. A 220/.313. sounds like a 303 British or maybe a 30/40 Krag design. Pushing a 220 fast enough to stabilize might be a problem, but as I said, give it a try. Something around25.0- 26.0 gr of 3031 might be a place to start, but I don't know of any data for a 220 gr boolit in the 30-30, so you'll have to extrapolate.

Wyr Twister,

I shoot the Lyman 311284 (220 gr. in w.w.+2% tin heat treated) in my .30-30's. In my Marlins (10" twist) I have actually gotten some 4" groups @ 200 yards with subsonic loads (1,100 f.p.s.):-D

I load the bullet so that the base is even with the bottom of the case neck which means that it is a load one at a time ino the chamber proposition.

For ringing "Homer" the 1,000 yard steel buffalo, I use 34 grs. of H414 and in a 26" barrel, it launches that 220 gr. bullet @ 2,000 f.p.s.:Fire:

I had that load tested at a ballistics lab and, surprisingly, it was 5% below SAAMI MAP for the .30-30.

Have fun!
