I have a Lee .459 400 gr HB mold I use for my 45/70. It drops about .460-1, and I shoot them as cast. Works fine with duplex BP loads and ok with straight black.

I also have a Mauser 71 with a bit of an oversized bore- it runs about .452. .45 ACP bullets work fine if I don't size the brass, but they are a bit light.

So here's a thought- I size the Lee 405 .460 bullets first in a .458 sizer/luber, then a push through lee .452....... then shoot as is in the 71. Anyone see any issue with this?

I've done that but it just about eliminates the lube grooves so you will probably need a grease cookie if you are shooting BP.

I've done that both for just such a rifle (not mine, sob, sob! ) and to then PP them for a .458 45-70. I size them .459 and lube them with Javelina or my BP lube. Then run then through Lee .457, .454 and then .451 sizers. The lube makes them size easier and the lube grooves are there with the lube still in them when finished. They shot fine both in the Mauser with both smokeless and BP loads. The lube was washed off for the PP'd loads in the 45-70.
