I have not been posting much lately. The wife and I are moving and that means cleaning out more then twenty years of stuff. :-0
The good thing is finding things I have been looking for for a while. Like this,
145218

I was glad to find the dies and press. Then I looked at the other side and found this.
145220
The ram is still free and moves.
The press was in a heavy plastic bag so I had hopes it would be ok.
But the bag had failed where the coners pressed against it.
The other thing was the bag of fertiliser that got wet in the shed and made any thing close to it corode. Ugg!
The box with the other dies in it was in a difrent shed. So it and the books are fine.
I think the press is still useable and will be able to make .224 bullets soon.

So any ideas on how to fix the corrosion?
Thanks

Scotch-brite pads, elbow grease, and a good penetrating oil should take care of the corrosion. Military ammo cans and dessicant bags are your friends for long term storage.

I would brush on muriactic acid, rinse, neutralize with baking soda, rinse again, and oil. The acid removes rust almost instantly.

That's a Mity Mite press by Corbin from mid 80's. It's made of Ampco Bronze.
One thing that sucked with that model is you can't tighten down the die with the side bar in the way. Die keeps coming loose during your swaging session. Need to keep checking it every 5-10 swages. Later models that bar was removed but it was a slightly different press, the Silver Press.

Thanks for that info. Good to know. I have had it since the 80s and never used it.
Bought it when .224 fmj was $20.00 per 1000.
More modavated to give it a try now.
