Hi guys,
Picking up an old friend soon. Getting a "new" Classic S&W 29 .44Mag. in the next few weeks. Haven't had one since the early 80s.
I'm wanting to cast for this new gun for lighter or target loads. Was thinking about getting the LEE 240gr. SWC Tumble Lube six cavity mold and using LEE Liquid Alox on these bullets. Will be using water quenched ww bullets for my loads.

For anyone who uses these bullets in their 44s, how fast are you running them and is the LEE Liquid Aloz keeping them from leading up your bores?

Thanks!

Forget the Alox. Use regular lube on them, MUCH better.

I have a RCMS LAM2, use White Label 2500 or Red Carnuba lube, use that, even though the bullet is made for tumble lubing with small grooves?

How fast do you push this bullet without leading using regular lube?

Cast hard enough with Felix lube, I have used 24 gr of 296.

Wow! That's cookin!! And no leading with this bullet using Felix lube? My White label 2500 or Red Carnuba should be fine then.

Thanks!

I use it with about 10.5 grains of Unique. Good field load, not super hot. Easy to shoot and will dispatch most critters at reasonable ranges.

If you're using this particular bullet, do you get any leading using LEE Liquid Alox with this load?

I use xlox, and no, I get no leading. I didn't get any with Lee Alox either.

What's the fps on this load, 1050-1150fps?

I remember I use to load 9.0 of Unique years ago for my S&W 29 with a 240gr. commercial cast bullet and it was a mild load.

Thanks!

9 grs of unique would be about right with this boolit.
I still have a few hundred of these kicking around here somewhere, but used to run them light and accurate for cowboy silhouette shooting.
something like 4 grs of titegroup in the 44 special case was enough to easily tip over 100 yd rams.
