Most of the modern day dentists now use digital X-ray so you did score! Good job.i like the part about future scores! Lol, seriously that was a heck of a find. Good luck to you.

Lucky you, none of the dentists would give it to me.

Thats a Good Score. I've never scored any dental lead but its reported to be very clean stuff. Congrats on the new source! Let us know when you smelt it down, am curious how many pounds you end up with.

All the modern dentists I know use digital x-rays now.....and have for the past 15 years. No lead.

I have about 60# of the stuff from the by-gone daze. A little harder than pure, but I treat it as pure.

It melts down A LOT! Wear gloves as the stuff can have human contaminants in it if not previously used properly.

I would like to know more about the human contaminants. There have been threads on here about dental lead in the past that discussed this but nothing certain was every really stated. I would make an uneducated guess that most any contaminant would have a very short life, once away from the host. Any medical people on here with any info?

Fingerprints burn off before the lead melts. Did on what I melted at any rate.

I scored 21 lbs at my trip to the dentist, but they have switched over to digital and that was their left over stuff they wanted to get rid of.

Not exactly medical here, but I do get a fair bit of training on the topic at work. Most of the pathogens you'd be dealing with aren't viable when dried up and sitting on a surface like lead. However, I'd still want to wear gloves even if it's been years since that foil was in somebody's spit that might've contained their blood, even if it would be considered safe to touch.

Did stink when smelting it down, some sort of plastic film or coating I think. Wear gloves just as you would for WW's these do have the potential for bio contamination, probably not any worse than WW's if the wheel tech chews tobacco or tosses cigarette butts into the bucket.

Yeah, any free score is a good score. That stuff should make good bullets just as it is.

There is just something about saying "wife's slug gun" that gives one a warm fuzzy feeling.
