Does anyone cast the old IDEAL 457127 210gr RN?
If so, could you please post a close-up photo of a bullet.

I am also looking to buy a small handful of the bullets or the mold itself.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

I have one, but mine has only a single groove and I suspect it has been modified, I haven't used it in 8 years, because it sucked gutter-water in my 45-70. A well thrown rock could excel the accuracy potential of that boolit in my Marlin CB. If I get the chance this week end, I'll dig it out and take a photo.

Here's a photo of my old 457127 next to my old 454190. Both are single cavity moulds, and likely older than me (I'm 70) but still cast good boolits. 144834 I'm in Canada, so mailing boolits isn't really practical.

Dave:

Thank you very much for the photo ! I enlarged it a bit and was able to get the information I wanted.
Your mold must still be in great shape. The bullet is very nice !

What advantage would this have over the "collar button" designs? I recently bought one of NOE's at 186 gr, but have not yet had a chance to cast and load any. I could always use another 45-70 mold. I have now designated a wheelbarrow just for them.

Charlie:

I am looking at this bullet for several S&W .45 Colt revolvers that have VERY large cylinder throats (soft & sized 0.456"). A very similar IDEAL .44 design has worked well for me in some of my old .44 Special revolvers.

I enjoy experimenting (playing) with some of these old RN bullet molds.

Jerry,

I don't know if this will help but when I was in need of a fat 45 boolit for my Smith 25 I tried an old Ideal 454424. It dropped 'em at .457-.458 and they sized up nicely to .456.

Sorry, I already sold the mold or I'd offer it to y'all.

I am getting great accuracy from the Lyman 454190 sized .454 in the .45 Colt.
It's a very historic bullet too.
