Just traded for a barely used (but then arent most 44 magnums) from a LGS and I pick it up Friday. This one comes with the Ruger rings for 1". I was wanting to mount an Ultra Dot on it and need 30mm rings. Do I have to do through Ruger, if they even make them.

All web searches has me looking at Ruger Style rings for the M77 rifle and I can't locate the ones for the Standard Red Hawk.

It is my understanding that Ruger will swap straight across on rings that ship with a new gun. You may call and see what they say in your case.

UltraDot also makes a 25mm sight for use with 1" rings. If you shoot with both eyes open you can't really tell the difference in tube size as it disappears into the perifery. That said, if your rings are in new condition Ruger will swap them out for you.

I actually like the 1" tube better than the 30mm tube on pistols. I will see about swapping out the Ultra Dot (got it on sale at Midway last week) for the 1" tube.

Yes, Ruger will swap 1" rings for 30mm as long as they have not been used. I prefer 30mm.

I think they may have been used. I sent in an email this morning, hope to hear back from them soon.
I might just get the 30mm sized ones to save on aving to pay shipping back and forth on the Ultra Dot. Plus I can't find an Ultra Dot, in 1", with less than a 4 MOA dot. its splitting hairs, But I like a 3 or 2 MOA dot.

I use the 30MM ultra dot 4MOA I hit clay birds at 150 yards with it.

If you want a smaller dot you have to move up to the variable dot system. I don't like or trust the variable dots
on any scope. Many time they don't track true to zero when you switch them.

Ruger will switch them out for you.

I may even have an extra set, I switched to Warne QD rings, easy on--easy off and back to zero.
no mess when I clean the pistol.

I think the red hawk takes two of the same height rings. the SRH takes two different rings.

Well, just sent back the Match Dot since it wasn't going to fit on the RH anyways and got the 4 MOA nonadjustable Ultra Dot.

Ya, those are too long for the ring spacing but Weigand does make an "adaptor" of sorts. Did you get the 1" or 30mm tube?

I went with the 30mm tube. Can't hurt I figured. :)

This is sort of off-subject with your post, but I have the original (actually 2 sets) rings on my SRH. I have found that if you are shooting heavy duty loads, the 'scope will move eventually and zero will, of course, change. I simply have never been able to get the rings tight enough to hold a Burris 2x-8x 'scope in place for more than 50+ rounds of a heavy load using the 429650 boolit...

Good-luck...BCB

I have the same Burris and even with 3 rings on my .44 SBH Hunter with a Weigand base, Warne rings, I ate that scope tube up, way too soft.

Have you lapped the rings? I have found Ruger rings usually need it.

Picked up the Redhawk today. The #6 SS rings were shipped off to NH to be swapped out. Bought a set of 30mm from a member here as well. A set of silver/black grip from Altamount is on the way as well. :)
Ultra Dot should be here by next week. Hope to get it put together soon. But taking it out tomorrow, plain jane, to shoot some light loads and sigh it in.

One thing about the set up, It does NOT feel barrel heavy at all! It feels more balanced. Can't wait to shoot it this weekend.
