I just got this announcement from Lyman, and am planning on getting the one for handguns (at least.) I would like it even better if it had one more hole to check 327 Fed Mag (as well as 32 H&R, 32 S&W L, and 32 S&W.) It still looks like a pretty handy tool to me.

Yes, looks pretty handy.

I've been using stainless steel Dillon case gauges. They are caliber specific, however. I use them for auto loaders like 9mm, 45 acp, 30-06 and 380 acp. I find them an essential last step to assure the loaded round meets SAAMI specs.

Thanks Froggie! I'll have to keep my eyes out for one of the pistol gauges. At a MSRP of $29.95 for the pistol gauge block -_ I think that's pretty reasonable price wise. I have cartridge gauges for .380, 9mm & 38/357. I use my 9mm and 38 a lot for checking fandom as they come off my press. The gauges I have cost me around $16 to $20 each if I remember correctly. This block, with all the different calibers would be really handy to have on the bench and save on buying individual gauges. Good for Lyman for introducing this!

Won't the back end of your barrel do the same thing, or am I over thinking this?

Been looking for these, thought LEE was producing them. Thanks for the post!

The plunk test in a chamber does work. But if you are loading one caliber for multiple pistols, then what fits one chamber may not fit the next chamber you put it into. However, if you test your reloaded cartridge with one of these testers and it passes, then your round meets SAMMI specs. All chambers in guns ideally will accept sammi spec ammo.
