I don't have access to a chrony right now and want to get some loads together for 25-06 with 100 and 120 jacket bullets and 872 and 7383 powder. Any one willing to share any load info with this combination? Sometime I want to get some moulds for this caliber but for now it is with jackets.

don't have any for those powders. I like 4831 and for that you can go from 42.5 grains up to 50.5 grains with the 120 grain bullet.

Be advised that in days of old some of the first SEE's were from using the 25-06 with 87 - 100 gr jacketed bullets and reduced loads of slow burning powders (principally surplus 4831).

Reread Larry's post and think about the 25-06 being the smallest effective diameter on the 06 case. IME slow powders are at their best when not necked down excessively.

WARNING - I'm half-way around the world from home at the moment and don't have access to my loading manuals/data. The loads mentioned are strictly from memory and should be confirmed with an appropriate source before use!

The 872 (similar to H870) and either the 100 or 120 bullets should work fine. Used to load my 25-06 with H870 (because it was cheap and gave great accuracy). The biggest challenge was getting enough of it in the case. As I recall the starting load in the Hodgdon manual was 58 or 59 grains (for the 100 grain bullet) and the max load was something on the order of 65 grains. As I recall I had to really work to get more than 62 or 63 grains of H870 in the case - compressed loads - but they shot great.

I have some data from Accurate Arms with 8700 in their Number one loading manual. I have used this as a guide for my surplus WC 872 with no problems in the 7mm Rem Mag and 300 Win mag. Use at your own risk.
100gr Nosler BT 57.6gr to 64 grs. velocity 2456 to 2791 fps
120gr Sierra HPBT 55.8grs to 62 grs. velocity 2331 to 2649 fps.

In case you use cast in it: Pen 100 gr FNGC 48.6 grs to 54 grs. Velocity 2124 to 2414 fps

I have found that the velocities listed were much slower than what I got.

Thanks every body, I now know why not much talk of 25-06 and the real slow surplus powder. Well, when backed in a corner you figure a way out so I got some drill bits and made a mold that throws 112 gr boolits. Cast a handfull and are baking them in their PC coating. Not expecting much from them except should make the gun go bang. I will get this 06 figured out yet as I always pushed this one back away from action. Kinda feels like I just bought a knew gun!

been shooting the 25-06 for 30 years now, its my everyday varmint gun and with the right bullets and powder can do great things. its a very flat shooting gun and is deadly on coyotes. loaded some hollow points for it one time with the max recommended load of powder and the bullets were flying apart in mid air.

I keep my 25-06's in the 3,000 fps area. [with 100-120 gr bullets]
there's no need to get carried away.

if your gonna shoot cast in it your gonna need re-think the super slow powders and look at more realistic goals of 1800 fps.

I have had good results pushing 117 and 120gr. with IMR 4831 for my rem700 in 25-06 Rem.
as for using IMR 7828 in my 25-06 Rem. AI it does well but have no data using it in the standard version.
as for getting data no book is not a problem with the internet

I will use fast powders for cast. I bought this 7383 with the 25-06 in mind. I stumbled on a bunch of real old 100gr jacket bullets and I was hoping to shoot these for fun. I have nosler partitions for hunting. With the surplus powder I was not hoping for mach speeds just a fun load to shoot up these jacketed bullets.

Love my 25-06 over in the J world. 100gr Sierra FB with VV 160 or 165. I've been trying to get up the nerve to give a boolit a try in it but so far no action. I have got my 22-250 shooting cast pretty well so maybe should give it a go. My thought is that it is most likely one cal. that may not be an easy one for cast boolits. GP
