I used to put up shot loads for 44 mag and 45 colt, not so much for snakes but for rats, pidgeons and other vermon in buildings. a nice light load that wouldnt tear up walls or tin roofs. Worked pretty good for intended use.

I got a 10lb bag of #12 last summer...make sure your testing frame is all cardboard, #12 bounces back at you if it hits wood.......

Ughhhhh. Tried ordering a 10# bag of #12 from Midway and got denied because "it's illegal to send any part of a cartridge to MA". (It isn't at all. Our AG likes to pretend that it is and sends threatening letters to anyone they find mailing components to the MA subjects) Yet ANOTHER reason to hate this god-foresaken state.

That's the plan. I can't blame them for not wanting to deal with the hassle. I *can*, however, blame this state for their hostility toward law-abiding citizens and do my best to get out. I've been submitting applications hot and heavy for jobs back home in Tennessee. I sincerely hope one of those jobs comes through in the very near future.

I had the same problem living in Illinois AND Crook county.

They did offer me the option of having it delivered to a friend in Indiana.

The package arrived there yesterday.

You can't tell them it's for a black powder shotgun? That's a gun that technically doesn't take a cartridge.

Tell them its for dead blow hammers. we went thru a bag every few years at work making small bumpers and hammers for the tool room, die case, and certain areas out on in the prodution area.

I made up some shot shells using 7-1/2 shot with 45 LC cartridges. Tried at 15',10' and 5'. 5' is where I got the best pattern. Took all of 1/4 oz of shot.

Killed a rattler today. With my truck ! lol It was crossing the road just out of the town limits. I turned around to go get the rattles and some guys had stopped and cut them off. 7 rattles and a button about 4 ft long. Didn't have my camera , just my luck. Huge body. That thing could of ruined someone's day.

As common as rattlesnakes are around my house, (I've killed 40+ in the last 10 years), I've probably only used a box or .44 caliber Speer shot capsules. The simplest, and probably cheapest way to get shot is buy 12 ga. #9 shot field or skeet loads. Cut a shell or two open and rob the shot for pistol shot loads.

The first rattle snake I killed with one of the 38 Special shot loads amazed me. It was about 7 feet and and shredded its head. Made me a believer and I always carried them after that if I was running around snake country.

Keep a sharp hoe handy. Quieter and cheaper.
