I like casting al fresco... At times I wonder if having the nozzle for the bottom pour sticking out below the enclosure won't aid in the dreaded "freeze".

I measured the nose on my Pro-Melt, it is @ .561-ish, or 9/16...

Could I put a ring of some insulating substance around this nose? Say 9/16 ID and @ 1/2 long?

another way to go: I 'hit' mine with a short burst from my propane torch. Opens it right up flowing again

Just keep it away from breezes and drafts, works fine for me

I wrapped mine with some insulation. Nowadays, I use more 3-6 cavity molds and am running the temp higher than in years past. The combination of higher temp and insulation made the nozzle freeze go away. It was pretty irritating. I used to have a little propane torch with a piezo igniter handy.

It was a narrow tape insulation that I got from McMaster Carr many years ago. It probably was glass. Nowadays, they sell some hi temp rubber impregnated products and even some materials that you can wet and mold into place.

In the winter I cast in the garage and the pot is my heater. Get alot of frozen nipples on my cheep lee 20lb pot. Mostly when I add to much lead or pause for too long. Just blast it with the torch and keep on trucking
