I'm hitting the road this fall and winter to get the heck away from New England. Will spend most of my time in the Southwest attending Cowboy Action Shoots. I need a way to reload ammo and since I'll be traveling in my Pick-Up truck camper. towing a motorcycle in my trailer, I figures I'd rebuild the trailer to be a "Mobile Reloading Room"

Started a whole article on my web site with tons of pictures if you are interested.....

Really cool. Might as well add a few feet and another axle ! Enjoy that trip, nothing better than a shooting vacation.

Roy: If you are going to mount your machines to the bench Semi-Permanently, make sure to include some way of locking the handles down so they can't vibrate or flop around while driving.

If allowed to vibrate they will wear the pivot points out in short order.

Thanks Randy, good thought. They will be mounted on my removable mount I developed and stored in a padded case as I'm using LEE 1000 reloaders and they are extremely fragile with the case colemater and the powder resevour.

The battery will be replaced with a much larger Group 27 deep cycle battery in a proper battery bracket. This is only temporary to keep the alarm active.

This morning I got up early, before the heat arrives and hooked up the solar system

Mounted a monitor panel I had from an older project.

13.4 volts from the panel in the shade at 8am

The solar controller is just hanging from a wire until I permanently mount it

Next phase is to insulate the ceiling and install a headliner

Not sure how I'm going to handle these curved sections......Maybe simple sheet aluminum flashing like I used for the front corners...

Get with a good trim carpenter that knows about water soaking boards for use in archways and such. It's very easy to do especially if you have access to pool. Later David

Nice! That's going to be so "homey" you won't want to leave! I think you might be happy that you have that heater in there. Don't know just whee you're headed but our place is between Tucson and Green Valley - southern Arizona and desert. In the winter months, it does chill down. We've had it down to 18 degrees whee we are - enough to freeze the pipes on some of the houses whee the water comes in to the house - they don't build their houses like we're used to up north. Our electrical panel is on the outside wall of the garage, water pipes come up to the meter outside and then in to the house. I usually put a blanket over the meter/pipes if it's going to be down near or below freezing and leave a couple of inside faucets drip during the night. When the sun comes up, it warms up. Coldest weather seems to be from about Nov. to Feb. or so. Not bad but just be aware that it can get chilly.

It sounds like you have a great adventure planned that will be a lot of fun. You can pick up and move on when you want to and see lots of different places. Plus, have fun along the way! Enjoyed your site and will keep going back to watch the progress! Don't blame you for escaping the winter months. I don't miss the snow and cold at all in MI when we're gone!

I did a conversion van back in the 70's and the way you did the cornice was to go as far toward the wall until the curve stopped you. Then cut blocks that change the curve into a flat on an angle with the curved part on the opposite side.. This would be easier on a trailer than on a van as all the supports were a different curve. I hope I made sense. You then cover the blocks with a single strip of paneling the same as the rest of the roof. If I was doing it now, I would use the fiberglas panels HD and Lowes have for campers and bathrooms. No damage from the roof sweating and dripping and ruining the wood paneling. It costs much more but there is now an insulation used on cars that has foil facing and adhesive backing. Good luck and safe shooting.
This isn't my picture but it shows the approximate way I did it. Then use a narrow 4-6" strip of ceiling material from front to back.

Looks great and should work well as it seems to be well thought out.
Several years back I seen pics of a reloading/shooting trailer that a guy built, it had the bench for cleaning and reloading and cupboards for storage. It also had a fold down window on the sides like what you would see on a food trailer at the fair, the fold out also served as a makeshift shooting bench.

I'm trying to find a picture of my "reloading trailer." Since most of my shooting is black powder at North-South Skirmish Association events and Schuetzen events (using breech seating at the bench) I don't actually do much loading in the trailer, rather I do some load prep in the trailer, and use it to carry things I need for the event at hand. Anyway, since my main job for my "event trailer" is to support me, I use a little fiberglass "egg" made by Burro™. It serves the functions you mention and keeps me comfortable as well. :D

Time to spray the interior. Need to put a finish on that nice maple veneer. Decided to mask everything off and spray it:
http://images60.fotki.com/v1621/photos/2/36012/13752412/FullSizeRender2-th.jpg

Used a Water Based Poly finish in semi-gloss. These water based finishes are fantastic. Use a water dampened rag to wipe down before spraying.....doesn't matter if there is a bit of moisture in your air lines.....clean up with soapy water.....dries amazingly fast. I laid down three coats, sanding between , in three hours!

Cool thread. I've looked at your June postings and also your 7/15/2015 update. With the progress you are making I think you will have time to swing by Texas by early October and help me whip out something simple before you proceed further on your tour :bigsmyl2:. A man with your skills could really do some good with :kidding: those of us with lesser talents.

so where are you heading?
Noticed you've been invited to Garland.
come on down I-45 to Houston.
We have a number of CAS clubs in the area. You could probably shoot every week-end. Our hill country has a goodly number also.
While we're dying right now, the fall and winter are 'right nice.'

Walter, I plan on spending the winter months in Houston / San Antonio area. I'm sure you'll be seeing me! Thanks for the invite.

Built a couple of speaker cabinets today and got the TUNES hooked up. Sounds like a concert hall in this small space!

Great idea. I've thought about this modified for a UTV with a reloading/workbench to take to Montana prairie dog shooting.
