I have aguired an Ideal bullet mold #320366. it makes a long pointed gas check rifle bullet. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is for.

Brownie:

As xtimberman says, it is for the 8mmMauser (a spitzer gas check design, about 180 grs.). It is the same as the later #323366; they used the "size to" prefix #320... from its introduction in 1913 up until about 1956, then went to #323... until it was disconinued in 1978 (as a special-order item since 1974). This may represent an actual change in diameter, to match the later 0.323" S-Bore Mausers vs. the earlier 0.318" ones; but Lyman often changed the prefix just for reasons best known to themselves. Best to cast some up and see where they end up in diameter.

Be interesting to see if it shoots. That long unsupported nose requires a real straight start for accuracy. Make sure you get minimum run out of the loaded round and I'd try and seat them to contact the rifling. They might shoot well, but the design has all the ear marks of an "iffy" shooter. Let us know please.

That .326" as cast would probably be just about right in my .315 x .325" K98k.:)

Have you slugged your bore yet?

kinda late reply to this post, but it could also be an 8mm Breda. They are .326 I believe.
