Any one have a good load for the carbine? I want somthing that is moving pretty fast with a 180 but not beat the rifle up. I think these rifles will stand some of the "older" data that is out there with no ill effect won't they? I ask this for those of you in the know on this subject.
It shoots most everything pretty well to 100. It seems just past there and on to 200 it goes crazy. Almost like the bullet goes to transonic and destablizes. I have seen several 180's be about a foot above the target then spiral down into the target. Steel ram that needs to be knocked over to score. Fourarmed and I have talked about this before, but more so in a revolver than a rifle. I am going to guess more speed may help. i have sevral weights and designs of 35's, so I should be able to come up with somthing.
I have not ran any of the ones I mentioned above over the chrono. Plan to do that ASAP when time alllows.
Thanks
Jeff

I assume your rifle is in 357 MAG ?

My 1894CB in 357 MAG has been pretty happy with a now obolete Lyman 215 grain SWC GC mould .
Sorry to say I cannot remmember the load off the top of my head . But bear in mind I did not make this load overly hot either .
But both this 1894CB and my little 1894CP both shot it well at 50 yards . I do believe the load was zipping along well enough to pop a deer at 50 yards or less though [smilie=1:

I have put a lot of time in testing different powders, primers, etc. and H-110 and CCI 550 primers turned in the best accuracy.Win 296 does as well also.Lil-gun gives higher velocity for the same pressure but wasn't quite as accurate. My MarlinCB with it's 20 inch barrel will get up to 1850 fps with Lil-gun and my 185GC boolits. The best group I have shot has been the 185GC at quarter inch at 50 yards with 14.0 grains H-110.That is an easy load on the rifle and will work on deer at woods ranges. For 200 yard shots a custom 200 grain GC boolit would probaly be your best bet.

14.9 grains of Lil' Gun gets the GB Lee C358-180-RF to 1,703 fps average in my 18.5 inch 1894C.

Jeff,

Not that this helps you much but that must be neat to observe those bullets diving and sacrificing themselves for you like that.

There are a lot of things this could be. This could be as simple as a diameter problem.
but I would think that a rifle should stabilize a 180 down as far as you want to go. This isn't a reduced front diameter type slug is it?
