has anybody shoot ether the 458 socom or the 50 beowulf in a ar15? would like to know how they handle and how well they shoot? also can you size 50 ae brass into 458 socom brass? the 50 ae brass is avalible and the socom is not + the 50 ae is less than 1/2 price of the socom brass. i been leaning toward the socom becuse i can use my standerd ar 15 mags and 300 gr cast bullets should feed though the gun

I'm pretty sure the Beowulf works with standard mags too. A 30 rounder holds like 10 rounds. I think they claim the .50 usually shoots around 1" at 100 yards.

Check Starline for socom brass. You cannot make it from ae brass, too short. Both the beo and socom rounds use standard mags. Beo brass rim size is more on the order of the 7.62 x 39 round and the socom is a bit bigger. The beowulf has a bigger thump, I have read, but the socom is no slouch. I have shot the socom, but haven't built my 'wulf yet. Check out 458socom.com and I think there is a 50beowulf.com also
Plan on trying the Ranch Dog boolit in my Socom and the Lee boolit when I get my 'wulf built.

I have a Tromix 458 SOCOM. It is real treat to shoot, very accurate and fun. Recoil is not an issue and I'd feel comfortable dropping any game inside of 100 yards. I haven't shot much past 100yds to really put it through its paces.

I have only reloaded jacketed bullets through it; I am trying to find time to develop some cast loads for it. There are a lot of 458 cast designs that should shoot well through the gun.

I have Starline SOCOM brass for it, both old and new. The brass is readily available through Midway and other big suppliers. When I bought it it came with some older Starline brass labeled 50AE. As far as I know this original SOCOM brass was formed from virgin 50AE brass - virign as in not trimmed to length for 50AE. 50AE brass will be too short if you try to reform it. The newer Starline brass is labeled as SOCOM vice 50AE. Lee did a limited run of SOCOM dies that a few of the big suppliers still have in stock. I personally have a set of CH4D dies that I got as part of a package deal.

Never fired the Beowolf but, have nothing but praise for the SOCOM. If you are contemplating one; buy it and you won't regret it.

I started my 458 socom hot and have been having a lot of fun with the Springfield 45-70 loads and am still playing with them and enjoying it. I've got a 45 325 gr RCBS mould that Buckshot HP'd for me and it is awsome.
