Does anyone have one? I think I want a 336 but I'm not a fan of pistol grips. I know I can order parts and trade them out.
I would love to see some pics and I bet this is the place that would have them.
Thanks guys!

They are called Texan. Loads of them on google. I have one in 30-30 and its very nice. Sorry no pics. Also the model 93 was available with a straight grip.

Have a set of 1895's, similar to 336, but heavier. The 22" bbl one has a pistol grip stock and has a removable scope with the factory irons. For scoped marlins my preference is the pistol grip stock. The other 1895 is a guide gun with the straight grip, and a set of peeps. For handiness and ease of use with iron sights the straight grip stock seems to fit me better. That's my opinion, others may view the stock preference differently. This is America, land of plenty, why not have one of each type?

Here's one that's on Gunbroker now. It's a 1957 model and, if I was in the market, I'd be on this like the white on rice. Anyway, here's what they look like.

You have to do some looking for "exotic/discontinued" models. I stumbled onto a TEXAN for $325 at a local shop and another, with the cross bolt safety, in the same shop two months later for the same price. Sometimes you just get lucky.

The best advice is watch gunbroker and other internet auction sites on a daily basis. IF it has a BUY NOW that you can tolerate, hold your nose and hit the button. That's how I got a very clean used 30/30 COWBOY RIFLE for $600.

I have a 38-55 336 Cowboy that is also straight stock with a 24 inch barrel. Also a 30-30 Cowboy which I gave to my daughter. My 94 32-20 is straight stock as are the others. To me personally the Cowboys were the best Marlins made.

I have two 336 RC, a 30-30 SRC and a 35 Rem, took awhile to find the 35 but worth it. They feel like leverguns are supposed to feel.

I followed this guy's procedure and converted a 35 Rem to a straight stock.

Just send your Winchester 94 to JES, and he'll make it into a .35/.30-30. Then you can use 30-30 brass (neck it up) and have pretty much the same thing as a .35 Remington. That's what I did.

A straight stock just looks and feels right on the 336.

Here's a .35Rem I converted to straight. It was in bad shape when I got it. Last 3" near the muzzle was pitted through the rifiling so I shortened and re-crowned the barrel. It was a fun project! I also converted it to have no barrel band and fitted a custom fore end cap.
I was inspired by the link in one of the previous posts. A true artist and craftsman is the only way to describe the gentleman that did the conversion posted above.

I have my fathers old 336 (1964) .44 Mag .It makes me sad to hunt with it because it was his favorite deer rifle for so many years. He has been gone now for fifteen years so maybe I will take it out hunting this fall..

Do those 44 mag rifles use the same receiver as the 30-30?

Well they made two different versions. The early ones from the 60's were a 336 and the later ones that came out in the 70's were the 1894 design..

Here is my 1962 vintage 336 in.35 rem. It is the rifle most likely to be asked to be brought along when I take someone out to the range

I saw a nice 336 straight stock today for sale at a local gun shop. It was a 30-30 with no cross bolt safety and gold trigger. They were asking $400 and I want to make an offer on it. Should I?

Yes, and if they won't deal and you like it just buy it. The Texans have a devoted following and prices just keep going up on them. I swapped a Ruger GP-100 for mine and consider myself to have gotten the better end of the deal. I also have an 1894 and 1895, both from the 70's with straight wrist stock and no checkering. And, I have a Henry H001T since Marlin refuses to make a 39A in this configuration. A Henry .30-30 is on the want list too.
