In a pistol point swaging die, is the hollow point actually the ejecting rod? I am planning hollow point truncated cone with a .25 meplat. Most every thing I find is for rifle dies. Cane_Man has a great schematic, but it is using piano wire and a guide sleeve for his 7mm . I am thinking the hollow point pin may be OK if I cut it from 1/4" stock giving it a broader shoulder behind the punch.

Thanks
Bill

What style dies are you making?

With my 44 set, the hollow point is formed when I seat the core, then closed with the point form, my ejection pin is 1/8 inch.

I guess KAL, or Blackmon style. Auto eject for a Rockchucker. I'm making truncated cone BTX hollow points. .357, .45ACP & 44mag.

It all depends on how the die maker made them. I habe some of each style

Thanks, I may be thinking this all wrong, I thought the hollow point was made with the point forming die, or are there two ways.

In the CH4D 2 die sets, the hollowpoint is the ejector for the finished bullet.

Hope this helps.

Yep, depends on how they are made. As some have said the HP is formed in the core seating process, and some sets the HP is formed in the point form process.

Thanks, think I got it, now comes the drawing board.
Any ideas to share about making truncated cone pistol dies.
