Hello Folks,

I'm about to start working up loads using 150 grain jacketed bullets and IMR7383 and WC860. I have a pretty good idea where I'm going to start, but if anybody has experience he would care to share, I'm all ears.

Thanks, Tom

Hello Folks,

Update: WC860 made 1725 fps with 100% loading density. I'm not willing to load duplex in the Contender, so that powder is out.

IMR7383 made 2000 fps at 100%. There was some unburned powder, but not much.
IMR7383 made 2250 fps with a slightly compressed load. I only loaded two rounds. The first shot the Contender was difficult to unlock, but opened easily once unlocked. After the second shot the gun unlocked and opened easily. However, there was not a trace of unburned powder.

Since I'm looking for 2300 fps, both powders appear to be unsuitable for the purpose.

Take care, Tom

I use 51.0 Gr. of IMR 4350 under a 165 Gr. Sierra HPBT for 2350 fps in a 14 inch SSK barrel and it's a tack driver. I believe this is a J. D. Jones recommended load. My avatar shows this gun in my Wife's lap watching the right-of-way. She's taken 4 whitetails and I've taken 1 with this rig/load.

I have plenty of data for canister powders.
