Here are photo's of how i modified the windage set screws from slot to allen head. now i no longer need to raise the scope tubue to the top of the scope mont to loosen or tighten the set screws.
this first photo shows the allen head screws that i purchased from home depot. i shortened the screws to 10mm length as well as the allen wrench

in this photo you can see why i shortened the 4mm allen wrench. notice that i can now loosen or tighten the allen head set screws with the scope almost and the bottom of th scope mount.

this photo shows the height adjustment marks on the mount and scope tube ring adjusted for 100 yds.

now windage adjustments are easy to do and so is bore sighting. hope this info has helped.

Thank you Rick.
I will be mounting my Malcolm scope very shortly and will install the internal wrenching screws before I begin the work.

How tight do the set screws need to be? A ball driver would drop in and tighten or loosen them from above ( I think the will work at a 30* angle) a tee handle or screw driver type might be just the ticket here.

In my experience, tight, plus Loc-Tite or some other thread locking compound. My Malcolm was mounted on a Buffalo Classic and could not shoot more than 15 rounds of 45-70 (350 gr. boolit over 10 gr. Unique) before loosening up. YMMV.

i find that switching from a slotted head screw to a allen head screw that with the allen head screw you can tighten the screws much tighter because of the allen head than you can with the slotted head screw. i do not use locktite and have had no problems with the screws coming loose. country gent... the reason i ground down the 4mm allen wrench i s because if you use a ball end allen you can't get a good enough bite on the allen because of the angle you have to come in at. the whole point of this modification was to be able to loosen and tighten the windage screws without having to raise the elevation of the scope to accomplish this.my load is 13.5 grains of unique behind the lee 405 grain hollow base bullet and so far nothing has come loose. if any one needs more information you ca reach me at 661-236-7337. i am in so. california.
