I designed a boolit, had the molds made, and now I'd like to know what the max powder charge is. Not guess, but know with certainty based on pressure testing the way the published load data is derived. How does one go about having this done by professionals?

Cool. Any idea what that costs?

I just tried calling but the guy is gone for the day. I'll try again tomorrow.

They are same area code as me so local more or less. Kinda cool.

FYI, I called and it's $500-$700 depending on whether you want CUP or PSI.

What cartridge?

You could do it yourself, with a strain gauge (and appropriate hardware and software)

It's $499; so in the low end of the price range you were quoted for one test.

It'll give you the pressure, but not where to stop short of the kaboom.

Either 40sw or 10mm with the boolits I designed for the MP-mold group buys. There is no comparable boolit with published load data. I'd like to change that. If I can get enough of the people who bought the molds to chip in for the testing we can learn the real-actual max saami load with the most popular powder(s).

That does look like a good idea. Thanks for posting it.

What boolit weight?

The group buys I've been running have made the same basic design in everything from 135gr hp up to 225gr solid in 5-10gr increments. I'd love to develop load data based on pressure testing for most of them but the 185gr hp is the most popular and definitely the place to start.

Would Quick Load be of any help?

Only in a limited way. The point is to generate actual data based on testing, not calculated data based on inference.
