My dad has a blue Python without the firing pin on the hammer. He was carrying it this spring and broke the hammer spur off somehow. I would like to find him a new hammer for Father's Day. I think he would really get a kick out of me finding him a hammer.

I am having trouble finding a replacement hammer. Do you guys know a source for the newer series pythons?

thanks for the help,

David Jones

If you can find one the cost is around 200 bucks. If you have part of the spur that broke off i would try to silver sodier it back together

I think I have one, brand new. I'll need to go through some stuff and I'll PM you when I find out.

Don't think Python ever had a firing pin on the hammer.

Read, guys! "Without the firing pin on the hammer" and it was the hammer spur that was broken.

Holly ****! That's a lot of "broken hammers" on flea bay. I have a 4" blued Python - bought it as an investment and have shot it once - personal preference I just prefer my vintage Smith M & Ps.

What's with the broken hammer "spur"? Was this a problem with the Python?

Looks like I would get more if I "parted" my Python out! LOL

Djones - good luck in your search - I hope you can find one that will work for you. That's a nice thing you want to do for you Dad and I'm sure he'd be tickled pink!

Replacing a hammer on a Colt SAA cost me $350.00. Custom gunsmithing to make it look better ruined it and the $350.00 did not include shipping.

I broke my Python's hammer spur years ago, and was sick about it. When I sent it off to Colt for a replacement, it took almost six months, got a lot of grief from Colt, and paid $275.00 to get it done. Now, with today's news that Colt is going Chapt 11, even that dubious recourse seems unlikely.

Do you have the spur ?
If so , there are some modern 2 part glues that will re-attach.

I told dad my intentions but that I couldn't afford a $200 hammer. I told him to find the spur and that I would fix the current hammer for him. I will look at the break and figure out the best method of repair.
