30cal. ranchdog, distance and accuracy

So in the mail is the mold stated above.

out of curiosity, with the big fat nose, what kinda accuracy can i expect at 200 yards or so ?

i choose this bullet mostly for the punch the 1/4" nose will whalllop. most of my friends never have to shoot past 150 yards in our hunting area, so i stated 200 yards for target practice =)

i know theres a ton of variables determining accuracy, but im just curious what the fat nose at 200 yards would do compared to like a 311041 bullet. "besides drop a few inches "

Lakemaster, let us know how it works out. I like that boolit too, but in a PB version. I make my own gas checks, as there are plenty to be had on the sides of the road in the form of beer cans. I currently have the Lyman 311041 and like it because the accuracy is pretty good to 100 yds currently, this is the longest at the range I am a member of. Besides that, most of the shots in the woods here are 50 yds and less in some spots. Good luck and stay safe.

I'd look at the actual drop rather than worry about the b.c. your actual velocity will determine what happens past the 150yd mark.

but I bet you'd be surprised at some of the 300 yd groups I have shot at 1900 fps, and at 2400 fps with a flat nose similar to that one.

oh and that's not a LEE boolit, ranch-dog designed them for the marlin rifles and had LEE cut the molds. after he quit the business [okay retired] he allowed LEE to keep the drawings so they could produce them if they wanted to.
Michael has also done some lesser known designs for the rossi lever rifles.

Not quite. Micheal(ranch Dog) designed that mold and lee cut a bunch under custom orders. The one NOE sells now is no clone. Swede has the drawing straight from RD.

im still new to all of this. im taking the cheapest route of reloading by casting bullets before move onto real reloading... slowly ill get there!

Micheals design is one mean looking bullet... cant wait to toss it out my 3006!

you get this cast stuff figured out and those fancy pants machine made things are gonna be boring.
even the jacketed ones I make myself are pretty boring to shoot when I use cast boolit loading technology.

HAHAHA thats not what i meant. right now i dont even have a press. im getting all my eggs in a row. i want bullets ready to go before i buy a press.

next will be a lee 0 frame challenger w/proper sizing system,gas checks, and then the pres to slap it all together.

I dont know if this info is of any use to you but I shoot that NOE in 155 gn in my norinco 7.62x39 bolt. its gas checked, 14-15 BNH, running 1800 fps cronied with 17.2 gn of 4227 pushing it. im about 2" high at 100y and 8" low at 200y. a couple of hunting seasons ago I dropped a nice buck at 185 yards. he just crumpled. didnt take a step. pencil hole in and quarter size hole out. it was the first hunting trip that I ever did using cast and even with continuing target shooting, seeing whats possible, I wont go back to those j words. in my 30-06 I run a 180 gn cast, gas checked and powder coated at over 2300 fps and very accurate.
